How to use the income tax calculator

1. Enter your income and the deductions that reduce your tax base.
2. Enter each bracket's limit and rate according to your country's rules.
3. Review the tax, effective rate and marginal rate.

How progressive tax works

Tax = Σ (part of the base in each bracket × that bracket's rate)

Each rate applies only to the part of the base within its bracket. That's why the effective rate is always at or below the marginal rate.

Bracket tax example

With a €40,000 base and the example brackets (10% up to 12,000, 20% up to 30,000, 30% up to 60,000): 1,200 + 3,600 + 3,000 = €7,800 of tax. Effective rate 19.5%, marginal rate 30%.
