How to use the break-even calculator
- Enter your fixed costs for the period (rent, salaries, insurance…).
- Enter each unit's variable cost and selling price.
- Review the units and revenue needed to avoid a loss.
Break-even formula
Units = fixed costs / (price − variable cost) · Revenue = units × price
Each unit sold contributes its margin towards fixed costs; beyond the break-even point, that margin is profit.
Break-even example
With €10,000 of fixed costs, a €15 variable cost and a €40 price, each unit contributes €25: you need to sell 400 units (€16,000 of revenue).
Illustrative example with the data shown; not a guaranteed outcome.
Assumptions and limitations
- Constant price and variable cost per unit.
- Units are rounded up.
