How to use the retirement income calculator
- Enter your savings at retirement, the assumed return and how many years they must last.
- Add your other monthly income, such as a pension.
- Enter the monthly spending you expect and see whether there's a shortfall or surplus.
How the income gap is calculated
Total income = income from savings + other income · Gap = expected spending − total income
A positive gap is a shortfall to cover; a negative one means you have room to spare.
Retirement income example
With €150,000 at 3% over 25 years (€711.32 a month) and a €1,200 pension, your income is €1,911.32. If you expect to spend €2,000, you're €88.68 a month short (95.57% covered).
Illustrative example with the data shown; not a guaranteed outcome.
Assumptions and limitations
- A constant monthly withdrawal that runs savings down to zero at the end.
- Other income is assumed constant; taxes and inflation are not included.
Frequently asked questions
How can I close the gap?
By saving more before retiring, retiring later, seeking a higher return prudently or reducing expected spending.
How much will I spend in retirement?
Start from your current spending and adjust: some costs fall (commuting) and others rise (health, leisure).
