How to use the investment return calculator
- Enter the initial amount and the investment's final value.
- Add the total of later contributions.
- Enter the duration in years if you want the annualized return.
Investment return formula
Gain = final value − (initial + contributions) · Return = gain / total invested × 100
Adding contributions avoids mistaking money you simply added for a gain.

Assumptions and limitations

- The annualized return is approximate: it treats all money invested as present from the start.
- Taxes are not included.
Frequently asked questions
How is it different from ROI?
It's the same idea, with a dedicated field for contributions made during the investment.
Why is the annualized figure approximate?
