How to use the dividend calculator

  1. Enter how many shares you own and the dividend per payment.
  2. Choose the payment frequency.
  3. Add the share price to see the dividend yield.

Dividend formula

Annual = shares × dividend × payments per year · Yield = annual dividend per share / price × 100

Dividend yield moves with the price: if the share price rises and the dividend doesn't, the yield falls.

Dividend example

With 200 shares and €0.50 per share four times a year, you receive €100 per payment and €400 a year. With the share at €40, the dividend yield is 5%.

Illustrative example with the data shown; not a guaranteed outcome.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Gross amounts, before withholding.
  • Assumes the dividend stays the same through the year.

Frequently asked questions

Are dividends taxed?

Yes, in most countries, often with withholding at source.

Is a high dividend always good?

Not necessarily: a very high yield may reflect a falling price or a dividend that's hard to sustain.
